Dear JSMU Alumni Family,
It is a tremendous honor and privilege to continue serving as President of JSMU Alumni Canada after being entrusted with a second consecutive term by our members. I sincerely thank you for your continued trust and confidence. As a proud SMCian from the Class of 1992, I remain committed to strengthening our alumni community, supporting our graduates, and fostering lasting connections with our alma mater.
My journey with JSMU Alumni Canada began in its earliest days. From our very first meeting at Tim Hortons with our founders, Dr. Anwer Rizwan and Dr. Tausif Ahmed, I have been actively involved in building our organization. Before serving as President, I designed the official JSMU Alumni Canada logo, served as our first Publication Secretary, led the publication of our inaugural 50th Anniversary Souvenir, supported fundraising initiatives, designed promotional materials, and volunteered on various committees.
My first term as President was both rewarding and inspiring. Together with our Executive Committee, Board of Directors, volunteers, mentors, and members, we expanded our alumni network, strengthened member engagement, and introduced initiatives that continue to benefit our community.
One initiative especially close to my heart is the Physician Pathways Support Group (PPSG), which I founded and continue to coordinate to support SMC/JSMU graduates pursuing their medical careers in Canada. Through PPSG, we provide free weekly MCCQE1 study sessions, mentorship, networking opportunities, educational programs, and career guidance. I also develop much of the educational content and MCQs, working alongside our dedicated volunteer mentors who generously share their expertise with our graduates.
Strengthening our relationship with Jinnah Sindh Medical University has been one of my key priorities. During my first term, I had the privilege of representing JSMU Alumni Canada during an official visit to JSMU, where I met with the Vice Chancellor, Registrar, and senior university leadership to further strengthen our partnership. I also had the honor of presenting commemorative plaques on behalf of JSMU Alumni Canada. As part of our commitment to giving back, JSMU Alumni Canada donated benches to the university to enhance campus facilities for students, visitors, and staff. This contribution was formally acknowledged by the Vice Chancellor, Registrar, and university administration as a meaningful example of alumni support for their alma mater.
Giving back to our communities has also remained one of our guiding values. During my first term, I had the privilege of leading JSMU Alumni Canada’s $10,000 fundraising initiative for the Trillium Health Partners Foundation in support of the Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital, reflecting our commitment to improving healthcare and serving the wider Canadian community.
Throughout the year, we also organized educational programs, networking events, our Annual Dinner, Annual Picnic, and numerous initiatives that brought alumni and their families together while strengthening professional connections and lifelong friendships.
These achievements would not have been possible without the dedication of our founders, Board of Directors, Executive Committee, mentors, volunteers, and members. As I begin my second term, I look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to strengthen JSMU Alumni Canada together.
Regards,
Dr. Perveen Bajwa
